Lady Pink and Smith

For the inaugural installment of On The Run we tapped two graffiti legends, Lady Pink and Smith, to tell us the tale of how a couple cops pushed them to the edge (of the third rail) and unwittingly sparked an underground romance.

Almighty 7 Dumbest Raps

Not dumb meaning dumb, but dumb meaning good!

Scribble Jam '08

Scribble Jam is one of the country's best annual hip-hop events. It has been keeping underground hip-hop alive in the Midwest (Cincinnati, OH specifically) for the last 12 years.

Legal Dope; 5 Pointz Graffiti Factory

There was a time when getting up in NYC meant braving tunnel rats, other writers trying to vic you for your paint, overzealous heroes, and of course, the cops. While those hardships are certainly still available to the young writer trying to make his mark on society, there's a place in Queens where one can paint a piece in relative peace—5 Pointz.   5 Pointz is a 1 square-block building filled inside with artist studios and covered outside with hundreds of layers of spray-paint. Longtime NY graffiti-writer Meres is the curator of these ever-changing walls. Our man True 54 sat in one of the stairwells and asked him some questions (after first securing a spot to cold get dumb on that afternoon.)

Dumb Questions for Sacha Jenkins; Part 1

Even if you don't recognize his name, chances are (if you're looking at ColdGettinDumb) that you've read or seen something that Sacha Jenkins had a hand in. As one of the members of Ego Trip, he co-created such classic works of hip-hop scholarship as Ego Trip magazine, Ego Trip's Big Book of Rap Lists, and Ego Trip's Big Book of Racism. He has also written numerous articles and interviewed many a rapper/actor/entertainer for magazines like Vibe and Mass Appeal (the latter of which he also serves as Editorial Director.) Don't get it twisted though, Sacha's alright, but he's not all-write. He's also co-produced a few reality TV shows for VH1: "The White Rapper Show" and "Miss Rap Supreme." And he's currently getting busy on a show for MTV starring a certain Vitamin Water-guzzling mogul you may have heard of named 50 Cent. ColdGettinDumb sat down with him in Ego Trip's illustrious offices in New York City this summer to chop it up about graffiti, raps, and other important stuff. In part one of a two-part article, we focus on his most recent hardcore hardcover offering, "Piecebook: The Secret Drawings of Graffiti Writers."
